Silica Sand Processing Facility

Processing of silica sand consists of crushing and grinding the sand to liberate silica sand-bearing particles, concentrating the silica sand by separating the particles from the waste material, and pelletizing the silica sand concentrate. Breaking will be the initial step in processing crude silica sand and consists largely of crushing and grinding.

When grinding, the silica sand is dry-crushed in as much as six stages, depending on the hardness of your silica sand. 1 or two stages of crushing could be performed at the mine prior to shipping the raw material for the processing facility. Gyratory crushers are commonly utilised for main crushing, and cone crushers are utilised for secondary and tertiary fine crushing. Intermediate vibrating screens eliminate undersize material from the feed to the subsequent crusher and permit for closed-circuit operation of the fine crushers. Just after crushing, the size in the material is additional lowered by wet grinding in rod mills or ball mills. The rod and ball mills are also in closed circuit with classification systems for instance cyclones.

An option to crushing would be to feed some coarse ores straight to wet or dry semiautogenous or autogenous grinding mills (applying larger pieces on the silica sand to grind/mill the smaller pieces), then to pebble or ball mills. Ideally, the liberated particles of iron minerals and barren gangue should be removed from the grinding circuits as soon as they are formed, with larger particles returned for additional grinding.
